Left Woodlesford late morning, moored up at Castleford for some lunch and then waited for an oil tanker
and a sand barge to come up Bullholme lock before we could go down onto the river.
Weather quite pleasant, had a good run through to Ferrybridge. Moored up for the evening.
Thursday 28 October
Slept in!!! Had a nice restful morning. Went up to get some provisions at Morrisons and some bargain books from the charity shop. As weather quite pleasant in the afternoon went on a walk with Bisto.
We walked up to the Kings Mill flour mill and past the entrance and beyond, over a couple of small fields and ended up in Knottingley. Knottingley Parish Church was founded in 1110 AD, dedicated to Saint Botolph. Even visited a scrap merchants to see if we could find a petrol cap for the van… to no avail
Really nice and mild all day. Stayed in, in the evening and had an indian.
Friday 29 October
Slept in again!!!, we must need the rest… Had a quick walk and then set off back to Castleford. Once again had to wait for a sand barge to come through the lock at Ferrybridge and then the BW staff kindly put us through the lock. Arrived at Castleford lunch time, h
ad a mooch around the shops and then stayed in, in the evening. The scenery is lovely with the Autumn colours, Bisto loved running through the leaves.
Absolutely gorgeous weather, the sun has been out most of the day, still moored at Castleford, managed to do some shopping. Got some chips for lunch and ate them sat on the new bridge overlooking the wier. I have recently learnt that the sunken boat just under the bridge is called ‘Thomas’.
Gorgeous sunny afternoon, we were even out in t-shirts!! Bisto enjoyed the sun… Had a chinese take away from ’Oriental Delights’ just over the bridge… yummy!
Sunday 31 October
A bit drizzly and overcast today, grateful for the extra hour in bed! Headed back to Woodlesford. Had a great break, the weather has been extremely kind to us.. back to work tomorrow boo hoo!
